The championship was held in Nicosia, Cyprus, from 9 to 11 December. This kind of competition among students was held for the first time, before that only World Cups for students used to be organized.
Alexander, the winner of the competition, happily shared details of the participation in this competition:
- I have become a winner in the weight group up to 100 kg, having won in the final over the Ukrainian sambo wrestler after applying submission holds. Before the World Championship I became the winner of the championship of Russia in April 2016, it gave me a start in competitions of the highest level. I've been doing Sambo for 12 years. I remember that I was invited to the first class of sambo by my friend; at that time I could not imagine becoming a Pro in this sport! But a couple of years ago I won the world championship among juniors, and now among students. I am really glad that I can represent Minin University at competitions of this level! Actually, I regularly participate in various competitions. Right now, I'm preparing for the championship of the Volga region, which will be held very soon.
